Why Mark Zuckerberg is in Lagos, Nigeria now

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook and seventh richest man in the world is in the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub), Yaba, Lagos. He came in from visiting Pope Francis in Rome and enjoying a walk with his wife in the city.

At the CcHub, he engaged with students and was marveled at children coding and sharing ideas.

Next stop: Lagos! This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I'll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I'm excited to learn as much as I can.
Our first stop is the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps. I'm looking forward to meeting more people here!

Mark has been engaging Nigerian entrepreneurs and startups for  a while, with the recent $24 million investment in Andela from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative being a prime indicator. Facebook also launched FreeBasics in Nigeria a few months back

There is going to be a Facebook Developer’s event tomorrow. Initially, top developers were billed to attend. However, with Zuckerberg’s appearance in town, he will be headlining tomorrow’s event.
Mark may be in the country to inspect Andela which he recently invested in.  He may also be on the look out for other viable startups which may eventually benefit from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
