I was watching a video clip from Bvi which they titled "What Nnamdi Kanu want Biafrans to know", there I heard one Mr Asuzu Peter saying that there are about fifty pro Biafran groups fighting for the restoration of Biafra,this comment threw me into confusion that I began to wonder who and where are these groups and what have they done significantly to be included as a group fighting for Biafra.
May I use this opportunity to share with us some views concerning those that are really fighting for the restoration of Biafra and others that are hiding behind those fighting but claiming to be the real fighter. This post is not meant to divide us but to put the record straight and encourage us to do more as well as to shift ground if the place we are now is not effective in the struggle.
Twenty nine (29) years after the Biafrans lost the War of freedom and was forced into Nigeria precisely in 1999 Mr Raph Uwazurike gallantly renewed the Biafran struggle under the umbrella of MASSOB, he was well accepted by Igbos both home and abroad, many youths followed him but he ended up shamefully, acquiring wealth and finally derailed because there was no truth in him. After he operated for 13yrs without any success instead many of our youths were killed rather he went about buying and building mansions and Hotels,he showed signs of failure and by 2011 it was clear that he has compromised as he was aligning with politicians intending to contest for the Senate. He failed.
Towards the later half of 2012 Nnamdi Kanu came up with him gospel of Biafra restoration, it was difficult for Biafrans to follow him because of the disappointment they suffered in the hand of Uwazurike but some of us including me that heard the voice and understood it joined him immediately and when he emphasized the importance of truth and fear of God in the restoration of Biafra and at the same time applying them many Biafrans started coming in and today due to his truthfulness and commitment to the struggle he command a group, the IPOB that have it's presence in every Country of the World.
The Ipob under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu is without doubt the only group that is fighting for the restoration of Biafra through all the actions they have mounted against the Nigerian govt, the leader arrested, detained for near to two years and was recently released on a stringent bail conditions, Hundreds of her members killed by Nigerian Military and most of her leaders in the wanted list of Nigerian securities. This group has engaged in rallies all over the World,Twitter, telephone,Facebook and other social media campaign, diplomatic visits to government bodies and organizations of different Countries, letters to World leaders and diplomats all these put together has made Biafra a headline in Countries of the World.
There is no doubt that others who refused to be under Nnamdi Kanu came up with other groups which we are going to analyse their activities and how they have or have not effected the struggle for Biafra restoration.
(1) Bilie human right; this group that was piloted by Bar. Emeka Esiri was earlier joined with RBL but disagreement came when her leadership wanted to bring in Nigerian politician Rochas Okorocha into the group. The only noticeable action from this group was that they filled a Law suit against Nigeria on behalf of Biafra since 2012,till today there has been no hearing of this case, it was always adjournment till this day and internal crisis had engulfed the group that they finaly discovered that their leader was working for Nigerian govt in the back, this was made open when according to them he received an award from the same govt he claim to be fighting against and they removed him.Bilie till this day have not contributed anything in the Biafra restoration agenda.
(2)Massob, this is an organization formed by Mr Ralph Uwazurike, when it was clear to the members who really needed Biafra that their leader has failed and has joined politics they chased him out of the organization and reorganised it. The present leader seem to be working together sometimes wit ipob and their members join in rallies and protests especially in Biafra land but on their own they have not initiated any move.
(3)BIM; When Mr. Uwazurike was pushed out of Massob he formed the Bim which has not contributed anything in the struggle in anyway but also is counted as one of the groups fighting for Biafra.
(4) BZM, this group have Benjamin Onwuka as her leader,they have attempted to take over a radio station in Biafra land to announce Biafra an action that is laughable in freedom fighting, they were arrested and detained for 3years,recently released, they are sweating at home now.
(5) LNC, The lower niger Congress which have Bar. Tony Nnadi as her Sec. Gen. is working assiduously but in the direction of self determination for the lower niger region of Nigeria which includes the Oduduwas. They have effected much in the struggle through their activities internationally and locally, they have in many ways effected the UN and other International Human right bodies in considering plight of the indigenous people that make up Nigeria and their desire to go away.
(6) BVI, when Radiobiafra separated from Bilie HR.the members of BHR felt that their voices were not heard hence they no longer have access to Radiobiafra, it was at that point that a hard core Biafran Moses Nwaigwe who was among the first executive of Ipob donated money for BHR to establish her own Radio. As it stands today with internal crisis BVI has no members and cannot be considered a freedom fighting group seems to be separated from BHI and if not their broadcasts have no actions to show.
(7) ELDERS COUNCIL; This council that have Eze Ozobu as the leader and Dr.Ikedife and Chief Achuzie as members of executive was formed by Nnamdi Kanu to be supporting figure that the struggle will not be seen as a young people affair but when it was confirmed that their deputy leader has joined APC,the Ipob leader dissolved them and the Bilie HR incorporated them but unfortunately these elders have not effected the struggle meaningfully. The elders are expected to lead in international diplomatic relationship and lobbying which is key in the struggle but they are interested in home politics and as a result their presence is not noticeable and have have contributed nothing.
There may be other groups which I could not remember but many of these groups have no members and supporters,have no plans and are unable to initiate any move but take pleasure in condemning what others are doing.
This post is necessary for especially those who joined the struggle of late and those yet to join. The elders could have been a great hub of this struggle if they had lived up to expectation but they are standing between Nigerian politics and Biafra struggle and that is why no one even the government have not taken them seriously. These elder suppose to initiate bilateral relationship between Biafra and other nations, this could have won them honour and respect among Biafrans.
There are many who claim fighting for Biafra but to come out for rallies and protests, No, even 1kobo they have not contributed towards the struggle rather they are inside their bedroom making unnecessary argument on Facebook yet they claim to be freedom fighters.
Having said that, I will like you to judge among these groups who are fighting for Biafra restoration.
The reward of those who fought for the restoration of Biafra at the end especially those who died is to have their names written in the history books and remembered, our history book must contain the names of those who fought with everything at their disposal not those who were shouting Biafra,Biafra in their backyard and bedrooms but afraid to come out.
